Adjoint-consistent formulations of slip models for coupled electroosmotic flow systems

چکیده
SUMMARY The objective of the paper is to construct adjoint consistent formulations of the Helmholtz 'slip' model for the simulation of electroosmotic flows. The motivation is to apply adjoint-based methods for the development of adaptive finite element tools and parameter sensitivity analyses to microfluidic problems. Issues in the current formulation of the 'slip' model lie in the fact that it induces an ill-posed adjoint problem and may yield suboptimal convergence rates. A modified formulation of the coupled 'slip' model is thus proposed that results in well-posed primal and adjoint problems. Numerical examples are presented that show that the resulting adjoint solution exhibits the correct behavior on various two-dimensional test problems.

-Implementation of lattice Boltzmann method to study mixing reduction in isothermal electroosmotic pump with hydrophobic walls
The aim of the present work is to analyze the accuracy and to extend the capability of lattice Boltzmann method in slip EOF; a phenomenon which was previously studied by molecular dynamics and less considered by LBM. At the present work, a numerical experiment on boundary conditions of slip velocity is performed and the proportionality of slip with shear stress in electroosmotic pump is proved....
متن کاملMesoscopic simulations of electroosmotic flow and electrophoresis in nanochannels
We present dissipative particle (DPD) simulations of electrolyte flow in nanochannels for varying salt concentration and surface slip conditions. First, a method is presented by which the slip length δ Β at the channel boundaries can be tuned systematically from negative to infinity by introducing suitable wall-fluid friction forces. Using this method, we study electroosmotic flow (EOF) in nano...
متن کاملOptimization of A Thermal Coupled Flow Problem of Semiconductor Melts
In this paper we describe the formal Lagrange-technique to optimize the production process of solid state crystals from a mixture crystal melt. After the construction of the adjoint equation system of the Boussinesq equation of the crystal melt the forward and backward problems (KKT-system) are discretized by a conservative finite volume method.
متن کاملEffects of Slip Condition on the Characteristic of Flow in Ice Melting Process
In this paper a laminar flow of water on an ice layer subjected to a slip condition is considered numerically. The paper describes a parametric mathematical model to simulate the coupled heat and mass transfer events occurring in moving boundary problems associated with a quasi steady state steady flow process. The discretization technique of the elliptic governing differential equations of mas...

The various industrial and engineering applications of flow of fluid between parallel plates have continued to generate renewed interests. In this work, a comparative study of approximate analytical methods is carried out using differential transformation, homotopy perturbation, Adomian decomposition, variation of parameter and variational iteration methods for the analysis of a steady two-dimen...
